No. 1 Nevada Capitol Medallion Won by Cora Johnson during Nevada Day Celebrations
On Nevada Day, the Friends of the Nevada State Museum held a raffle for the No. 1 Nevada State Capitol Sesquicentennial Medallion over the course of the Nevada Day weekend.
The medallion, created to celebrate the State Capitol’s 1871 to 2021 Sesquicentennial, was designed by retired U.S. Mint engraver Tom Rogers, signed by him, and minted on coin press no. 1 at the historic Carson City Mint.
The winner was Cora Johnson, whose winning ticket was drawn at the end of the Nevada Day parade on October 30.
A former U.S. Branch Mint, the Carson City Mint was in operation from 1870 to 1893.
Today, the old mint building is incorporated into the State Museum.
FNSM continue to support the Museum and its mission to serve the community and state. Raising funds for this purpose is critical to the group’s success and activities on Nevada Day 2021 were part of that effort.
