Prescription Drug Take Back Events in Silver Springs and Dayton Saturday October 28
National Prescription Drug Take Back events offer safe ways to dispose of expired or unneeded prescription drugs.
As part of National Drug Take Back Day, Healthy Communities Coalition of Lyon and Storey Counties (HCC), AmeriCorps members with HCC, and Lyon County Sheriff's Office will come together to host drop off locations in Dayton and Silver Springs for unneeded medications.
On Saturday, October 28, 2023 from 10am 2pm, medications can be dropped off in front of the Smith's Food and Drug Store in Dayton at 2200 U.S. Highway 50 East.
Also on Saturday, October 28 from 10am-2pm, unneeded prescriptions can be dropped off in front of the Dollar General store in Silver Springs at 1105 Lake Avenue.
The annual effort aims to help keep communities healthy and safe by supporting the safe and convenient disposal of medications, while also educating the public about the potential for misuse of medications.
No needles will be accepted at these sites.
The effort is part of the nationwide federal initiative. Since its inception in 2010, the U.S. Department of Justice Drug Enforcement Administration’s National Prescription Take Back Day has removed almost 17 million pounds of unneeded medications from communities across the country. Last fall, communities across the country demonstrated their continued support for DEA’s bi-annual National Prescription Drug Take Back Day by safely disposing of unneeded medications at nearly 5,000 collection sites across the U.S.
