New Carson City Barbell Club gym aims to forge strength in community

Carson City Barbell Club, which aims to forage strength in community, is the capital city's first USAW Weightlifting Club. There will be an open house this Thursday, Oct. 19 to go through its programs, tour the gym and answer any questions.

The open house is at 6:30 p.m at 403 Hot Springs Rd. No. 2, Carson City.

Our barbell program teaches the Olympic Lifts (snatch and clean and jerk,) along with all associated strength protocols to develop the practice of Weightlifting. This is a group session environment for all skill levels lead by USAW certified coaches. We also offer individualized programming that systematically progresses athletes towards their individual goals. Our community provides an inclusive, supportive, and collaborative environment.

Our youth strength and conditioning program is appropriate for athletes ages 5 on up. It will be lead by a USAW certified coach. This program offers safe instruction for learning the Olympic Lifts, general fitness, and injury prevention for athletes looking to improve performance in other sports, or simply looking to be strong and healthy in a positive environment.

We understand the unique demands of high school sports, both in and out of season. Our strength and conditioning programs are specifically designed to enhance the performance of high school athletes, providing them with the strength, agility, and endurance needed to excel on the field or court. Our experienced coaches work closely with athletes to create personalized training plans that complement their sport-specific needs for both in season and off season.

Open Gym Time: We understand that life can be busy, which is why we offer flexible open gym hours. This allows you to work on your fitness goals at your own pace, outside of scheduled coaching hours.

Our gym is equipped with top-tier Olympic Weightlifting platforms, power racks, a variety of barbells and plates, and the latest strength training equipment from Rogue. Olympic Weightlifting: At our Barbell Club, we’re passionate about Olympic Weightlifting. On Saturday, April 20, Carson City Community Gardeners and the UNR Extension Master Gardeners came together to get the Community Garden ready for the growing season. For two hours they removed weeds, spread mulch and prepped their garden beds for the season.

In collaboration with Chartwells, the Carson City School District foodservice partner, Culinary Arts students from Ms. Tammy Borreman’s class at Carson Middle School competed in a “Discovery Kitchen Cook Off.” Similar to a mini version of the Food Network’s Iron Chef, the timed cooking competition featured teams of three students who prepared succulent dishes for a judging panel.
