Iconic rock artist John Doe performing Saturday at Nashville Social Club, Carson City
Best known as the front man for the legendary rock band X, Doe’s career has taken him deep into heart of American Roots music as a solo artist and a member of The Knitters, as well as collaborations with countless high-profile artists and bands.
The John Doe Folk Trio is Doe’s latest project. Formed in his home of Austin, TX, the trio recorded Doe’s latest album “Fables in a Foreign Land” and consists of Doe, bassist Kevin Smith (Willie Nelson) and drummer Conrad Choucron (NRBQ). Doe’s best known band X, released six studio records, five or six singles and one live record from 1978-1993.
For those unfamiliar with his artistry, the documentary “The Unheard Music “ is a must see as it chronicles the bands evolution from 1980-83. In 2009 the film was included in the Sundance UCLA Archive of greatest films of all time. They appeared several times on American Bandstand, Solid Gold and David Letterman. As one of the last original punk rock bands standing, they continue to tour.
John Doe has appeared in over 50 films and television productions, with some of his most notable roles in Road House, Georgia, Roadside Prophets, Great Balls of Fire, Pure Country and Roswell. He continues to act these days, but more sporadically, as his touring schedule has become more demanding.
For a new, 225 seat venue in northern Nevada to get this rare opportunity to present an artist of John Doe ’s caliber is remarkable. It’s possible, because the Nashville Social Club’s owners and management believes that Nevada’s state capital deserves a private venue that regularly presents iconic touring artists. Still in the ramp-up phase, the John Doe show will be the sixth concert in the music hall since it opened on August 12. Going forward, the team plans to bring as many as four touring acts to The Swan Music Hall per month for ticketed events.
Doe’s show will be an intimate, seated concert. Tickets range from $35-$60. Premium seats are guaranteed the first three rows and enjoy early admission to the hall. Ticket holders are encouraged to make dinner reservations at the Nashville Social Club for the night of the show well in advance. The Nashville Social club features a hip twist on southern food and lounge with a cool vibe.
