Aircraft drops continue on Red Canyon Fire in Pine Nut Mountains near Smith Valley
Fire crews are still fighting the fire Wednesday on the east side of the Pine Nut Mountains in Smith Valley, Nev. Four Phos-Chek dropping aircraft, a spotter aircraft, two helicopters dropping water and hand crews are all working in very rugged terrain to knock down the lightning-strike caused fire.
Rosie’s Place, a local restaurant in Smith Valley, is closing early to prepare dinner for the 80-plus firefighters said to be on scene.
The Red Canyon Fire size has been revised down to 8 acres, following more accurate mapping.
