Carson City's Pioneer Academy adds 'All-Star' educators to the Panther Team
Pioneer Academy in Carson City welcomes new and veteran "All-Star" educators to the Panther team. We were truly blessed to add such a talented group of professionals to our team this year. We are looking forward to working together to prepare our students for higher education and career options they seek after graduation.

Mrs. Tirado is known for her work in Carson City with science and sustainability initiatives, and her leadership in district science curriculum. She teaches biology, anatomy and physiology I and II, and APEX science grades 6-12th. She was a secondary teacher in southern California before moving to northern Nevada. Mrs. Tirado is earning her Master’s Degree in Educational Leadership from Western Governor’s University. She has also earned a Master’s Degree in Agricultural Science and has a Bachelor’s Degree in Agricultural Science from Cal Poly.

Mrs. Morris was rehired by CCSD to provide instruction at both Pioneer Academy and other sites in computer science courses. She earned her Ph.D. in Education with a Specialization in Educational Technology from Walden University Minneapolis, MN. She earned her M.Ed. in Curriculum and Instruction from Lesley University Cambridge, MA, and she also earned her B.A. Degree in Early Childhood Elementary Education at the University of Wyoming, Laramie, WY. Mrs. Morris has 33 years of teaching experience in the Carson City School District. In her spare time, she is a fan of the Wyoming Cowboys sports teams with her family.

Ms. Cantley is a Carson High School graduate and she taught social studies at Galena High School in Washoe County before working at Pioneer Academy. She is teaching, government, U.S. history, and world history. Ms. Cantley earned her Associate’s Degree in Arts from Western Nevada College and a Bachelor’s Degree in Arts, History, and Secondary Education from University of Nevada, Reno.

Mr. Bass is a decorated Navy veteran of 18 years and a Carson High School alumni. We appreciate his service to our country! He is teaching physical education, health, and APEX online courses at Pioneer Academy. He is also coaching football after school at CHS. Mr. Bass earned an Associate’s Degree of Arts in General Studies and History, and Bachelor of Science Degree in Business Administration. He is also working on a Master’s Degree in Administration.

Ms. Wellman is an art teacher with 14 years of experience from Washoe County School District. She earned her Bachelor’s Degree in Visual Arts and Interior Design from Missouri State University. She has another Bachelor’s degree in art from Sierra Nevada College. She is offering Pioneer students, advanced art, art portfolio, art foundations, APEX online art, and AP art. She specializes in acrylic painting and volunteers with Art Therapy at local hospitals.

Mrs. Gardner was hired by Jobs for Nevada’s Graduates (J4NG). She has worked as a teacher and office specialist in California and Nevada. Mrs. Gardner earned her Bachelor of Arts in Psychology and Master’s Degree in Reading and Literacy from Sonoma State University and Capella University. She previously worked in the hospitality industry as a front desk supervisor and has 20 years of experience in theater arts.
