Carson High grad celebrates release of classical album; to perform at Trinity Episcopal Cathedral
Dr. Jessica Dodge-Overstreet is an alum of Carson High School and the Reno Philharmonic’s Youth Symphony Program, and since then she’s performed across the US as well as in Canada, France, and Russia.
On Sept. 22, her debut solo album Root will be released on Ravello Records, with a performance at Trinity Episcopal Cathedral in Reno to celebrate. More about the album and concert below:
How many female classical music composers can you name? If you're not already a lover of classical music, it wouldn't be surprising to me if your answer was "none." If you are the type of person with the dial always set to the classical radio station, that number might go up, but even when I was a masters student in a music program my answer was still shockingly low.
This is when I discovered that there were literally hundreds of female composers and dove headfirst into databases filled with their names and work. After pouring over these lists, I compiled 4 works from between 1865-1921 to reimagine for soprano saxophone.

To celebrate this album, I'll be giving a performance of even more works by female composers ( and, I promise, at least one piece off the album itself!) The range of dates for this performance are far wider, including a piece written as recently as 2020. I'll be joined by Bryan Chuan and Regan Gallagher on harp for this celebratory performance at the beautiful Trinity Episcopal Cathedral in Reno, NV.
