Vintage aircraft at Carson City Airport Sunday to mark end of WWII
The Carson City Airport will have a number of vintage airplanes on display this Sunday, Aug. 30 from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. for an event to celebrate the end of World War II.
Cactus Air Force Wings and Wheels Museum will have several pieces of vintage aircraft at the airport. The community is invited to this free event to mark the 70th anniversary of the end to World War II. Among the aircraft is a WWII era TBM avenger fly as well as plenty of other planes and vehicles from both WWII as well as Vietnam.
The highlight of the day will be a TBM Avenger flight at 12 p.m. noon to commemorate the brave men and women of our armed services; both present and past.
All have historical importance and most have combat experience. Ask any of our employees or pilots about any of the planes or vehicles you wish to know more about and they will be happy to give you some of their knowledge.
Cactus Air Force is a privately owned and operated museum that gives visitors the opportunity to not only view history, but experience it in a hands on environment. Its mission is to keep military history alive, visible and accessible to give the public the ability to see equipment up close and in action.
Our aircraft and vehicles are available for Air Shows, motion picture and television roles and military demonstrations. Our facility also boasts a fully accredited staff of pilots with hundreds of hours clocked in real, historic military aircraft. We offer warbird training and restoration services for other aviation enthusiasts as well as air combat maneuvering and military vehicle transportation services.
Cactus Air Force was named after the famed allied air power assigned to Henderson Field on the island of Guadalcanal during World War II.
The joint forces joined together at Henderson Field included: United States Marine Corps, United States Army, United States Navy, and the Royal New Zealand Air Force. Following in this tradition of joining military branches and nations, Cactus Air Force in Carson City, NV was founded by Rick Clemens in the early 1970’s, in an effort bring together historic aircraft and vehicles from all branches of service and to preserve this proud military history.
