Campagni Cares recipient in June goes to 2021 Northern Nevada Walk to End Alzheimer's
Each June, the Alzheimer's Association of Northern Nevada recognizes Alzheimer's and Brain Awareness Month; using the color purple to support finding an end to the disease. When nominations came in to the Campagni Cares program for this great nonprofit, Carson City Toyota knew it was the perfect time to select them.
"I think a lot of people have heard of Alzheimer's disease, but they don't realize how many people are personally impacted by it," says Jeff Campagni, General Manager of Carson City Toyota. "We thought June's selection would help remind people that this is still such a huge issue, and we need to support the ongoing work for the families."
A huge issue is almost an understatement. According to the Alzheimer's Association, there are 49,000 Nevadans living with Alzheimer's disease. This number is expected to rise to 64,000 Nevadans by 2025. In fact, Nevada has the 3rd fastest growth rate in the nation. Beyond those living with the disease, it carries a far-reaching impact to the families, the caregivers and more.
One way the Association demonstrates the diverse impact of the disease is through the use of Promise Flowers. These colorful flowers are symbolic for supporters with each color signifying something different: Yellow, caring for someone with the disease; Blue, living with the disease; Purple, Lost someone to the disease; Orange = General support for a world without Alzheimer’s and all other dementia.
These flowers are prominently on display at the Association's biggest event and fundraiser: the 2021 Northern Nevada Walk to End Alzheimer's.
"Last year, we were unable to do our Walk, so we are working hard to make this a great year. Raising awareness and fundraising is a crucial part of what we do," said Niki Rubarth, Regional Director for the Alzheimer's Association of Northern Nevada. "There are so many ways to get involved and make an impact. While our mission is to help end the disease, we know that many more people will be affected by Alzheimer's before that happens. So even if you don't personally know anyone currently impacted, your support now helps us reduce that chance later."
The Walk will be held on Saturday, October 2, 2021. You can visit their website here to sign up, form a team, collect donations, or volunteer.
