Chautauqua of Theodore Roosevelt at Dangberg Historic Park

July 26, 2017 - 6:30pm Doug Mishler will portray former President of the United States “Theodore Roosevelt”, at the Dangberg Home Ranch Historic Park on Wednesday, July 26, at 6:30 pm.
Born in New York City on October 27, 1858, Theodore Roosevelt was governor of New York before becoming U.S. vice president. At age 42, Roosevelt became the youngest man to assume the U.S. presidency after President William McKinley was assassinated in 1901. He won a second term in 1904. Known for his anti-monopoly policies and ecological conservationism, Roosevelt won the Nobel Peace Prize for his part in ending the Russo-Japanese War.
In his presentation, Theodore Roosevelt will share his outdoor adventures of exploring and hunting, his many varied political careers, the events and decisions of his Presidency, as well as his experiences as a Rough Rider, environmentalist and progressive reformer.
This event is also made possible with the assistance of Nevada Humanities, an independent affiliate of the National Endowment for the Humanities.
The cost is $5 for adults, free members and for 16 years and younger.
Over the last twenty years, Chautauqua scholar Doug Mishler has become nationally recognized for bringing “history to life.” In addition to Roosevelt, Mishler has presented Jack Warner, D.W. Griffith, P.T. Barnum, Stonewall Jackson, and fourteen other historical figures in Chautauquas nationwide. Mishler has a Ph.D. in American cultural history from the University of Nevada, Reno.
“At our Founders Round-up event in February of this year, ‘Theodore Roosevelt’ was a favorite and our guests wanted more. We are pleased Doug Mishler agreed to a second presentation with even more stories for ‘Theodore Roosevelt’ to tell,” said the park’s events manager, Kim Harris.
The park is located at 1450 Hwy 88, ¼ mile north of the Carson Valley Veterinary Hospital. This is an outdoor event, and visitors should bring their own seating. Dogs are not permitted at this event. For more information, visit dangberghomeranch.org.
