TMCC political scientist to speak at Monday's Democratic luncheon
Truckee Meadows Community College political science professor Fred Lokken will be the featured speaker at Monday's Democratic luncheon. Prof. Lokken will give his expert analysis of the recently concluded 82nd regular session and special sessions. He will also look ahead to the 2024 election season.
Fred Lokken is currently a Professor of Political Science at Truckee Meadow Community College. In his quarter century at TMCC, he has served in the following positions: Instructor of Political Science, tenured professor of Political Science, Distance Education Coordinator, Director, Assistant Dean, Associate Dean, Dean, Director of the Incline Village program, Government Liaison, Cabinet member, and Campus Lobbyist to State Legislature. He is currently the Dean responsible for WebCollege, History, Political Science and Law. He also oversees the Academic Support Center, which encompasses after-hours administration, campus switchboard, the information desk, issuance of photo IDs, part-time faculty support, catalog, room scheduling, common course numbering, the curriculum newsletter, the online student proctoring center, student lockers, radio station KJIV-FM, the Nontraditional No More project, and concierge service for active adult learners.
Prof. Lokken currently serves as chair of the Coalition of Affiliated Councils (COAC) of the American Association of Community Colleges. COAC represented thirty-two affiliated councils of the AACC. He is also a member and past-chair of the Board of Directors of the Instructional Technology Council (ITC –www.itcnetwork.org). In that capacity, he annually conducts the only national survey of community colleges on Distance Education. He also serves as a political expert for local, state and national affairs. In 2015 he was appointed by Nevada Governor Brian Sandoval as state commissioner at the Western Interstate Commission for Higher Education.
Lokken holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Political Science from the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse, a Masters of Arts in Political Science from Washington State University, and an ABD in Political Science from the University of British Columbia.
Sponsored by the Democratic Men's Committee, this event is scheduled for 1:00 PM on Monday, June 19th, and can be attended either in person at Black Bear Diner inside Max Casino or online via Zoom.
