Girl Scout 'Take Action' project helps Carson City based Pets of the Homeless
CARSON CITY — The national nonprofit, Feeding the Pets of the Homeless, welcomed the generous donation of pet blankets made by Samantha Amthein and Rachel Bush of local Girl Scout Troop No. 210.
Nineteen colorfully patterned fleece blankets were made by the girl scouts for their "Take Action for Changing the World" project.
They were gratefully accepted by Pets of the Homeless founder, Genevieve Frederick, and will be delivered to local shelters to distribute to the homeless and those in need for their pets.
Pets of the Homeless believes in the healing power of companion pets and of the human-animal bond, which is very important in the lives of many homeless.
They find solace, protection and companionship through their pets. They care for their pets on limited resources so they themselves have less. The task, nationwide, is to feed and provide basic emergency veterinary care to their pets and thus relieve the anguish and anxiety of the homeless who cannot provide for their pets.
