Growth Management in Carson City: Express your opinion at Wednesday meeting
Where is the money to maintain the critical infrastructure?
Carson City already has an annual deficit of $21M for road maintenance. Deferred maintenance is the rule and not the exception and repair costs only go up over time if maintenance is not done timely.
How is the City going to sustain the growth in Carson City when there is shortage of funds? Shouldn't the current residents decide if they want Carson City to be 75,0000 population and by what time? What are the costs and benefits of this decision made by prior Planning Commissions and Board of Supervisors?
Please attend the upcoming Growth Management discussion at the May 31st Planning Commission meeting at 4pm. Robert Crowell Boardroom, at the Carson City Community Center on William Street.
Commissioners will recommend the # of development permits per year for the next 2 years. We need to change the methodology from a 3% growth of prior year permits to an absolute # of permits.
Why? We need balanced growth, strategically placed and paced with critical infrastructure like roads.
Carson City has also moved from a mix of single family homes and multi-family homes towards multi-family homes. The Growth Management Committee will show these statistics at this meeting.
You may say that this increases affordable houses in Carson City. Think again. The homes are built to get a $500K price tag - ala Andersen East project off Mountain Street. The operative word is luxury. There will be a 4-story luxury apartment building on Stewart and Washington. How many starter single family homes (ala 1000 Sq ft) have been built in Carson City in recent years?
Please influence how Carson City is built for its residents. Will the recent growth and type of growth create the Carson City you want for yourself and your children?
Stay involved ! Stay engaged ! This is your City - and only you can drive what this City becomes.
