Three Carson High School seniors win Lions Club Scholarships
The Carson City Host Lions Club is pleased to announce that three students from Carson High School have won the Club’s scholarships. The students are Kobe Morgan, Jonathan Barrera-Martinez, and Michael Service. Each student will receive up to $2,000 to help with expenses at a community college, trade or technical school.
The students were selected on the basis of the quality of their interviews and application, demonstrated community service, work history, scholastic achievements, and financial need. The Lions also considered scholastic standing and written accolades from community members.
Mr. Morgan will pursue baseball in college as a student athlete and expects to major in environmental science. Mr. Service is an Eagle Scout and expects to pursue a career in graphic design or cyber security. Mr. Barrera-Martinez has participated in the Jump Start career program, taking classes in auto mechanics at Western Nevada College. He expects to major in business. All three will graduate from Carson High in 2021.
The Carson City Host Lions Club is part of the largest service club in the world, Lions International. The motto of Lions is “We Serve”, and the Carson City Host Lions have been serving this community since 1932. Scholarships have long been part of the Youth Program of the Carson Host Lions Club, and the Club was very pleased to be able to provide three scholarships in a year when fundraising was largely limited by the pandemic.
