Historic Virginia & Truckee Railroad Trail explored with Carson City Leisure Hour Club presentation
The Carson City Leisure Hour Club continues its 127th year with a presentation by Donna Inversin, President and Founding Board Member of the Historic Virginia & Truckee Trail. At a club dinner meeting on Thursday, April 18, Ms. Inversin will describe the nonprofit’s effort to find remaining sections of old rail beds and stitch them together to build an 80-mile Rail-Trail.
The Historic Virginia and Truckee Trail follows the alignment of the old Virginia and Truckee Railroad grade and offers recreational opportunities while showcasing the beautiful landscape of the high sierra desert. The trail includes educational points of interest about important historical people, places, and events including Nevada’s indigenous peoples, mining, ranching and farming.
The Leisure Hour Club, established in September of 1896, is Carson City’s oldest continuously meeting social organization. The organization is focused on its goal of promoting knowledge on important issues, science, music and literature. Its motto of "Let knowledge grow from more to more" comes from Tennyson’s poem In Memoriam.
Information for individuals interested in joining can be obtained by contacting the club at 775-302-8820 or email: lhcreservations@gmail.com. Dinner meeting reservations are required and must be made prior to 5 pm on Sunday, April 14.
