Carson Montessori students and faculty make school 'EGGstravaganza' drop a success
All students at Carson Montessori gathered this week around the scissor lift eagerly anticipating the start of the Engineering EGGstravaganza. Each grade created eight carefully engineered contraptions to house and protect their prized egg for the school-wide egg drop.
The Carson City area students spent the days leading up to the drop working in teams brainstorming and designing strategic ways to protect an egg when dropped from a height of 23 feet. Students used recycled materials.
“We provided supplies like tape, string and glue and the rest was all repurposed, reused and recycled materials like pizza boxes, plastic food containers and packing materials like bubble wrap, lots of bubble wrap,” said Carson Montessori Principal Jessica Daniels.
Second grade and fourth grade students tied for first place with six out of eight successful drops, with each grade only breaking an impressive two eggs. Winning classes have earned a STEM Based “NICE” Cream party. Students will combine creamy ingredients and Liquid Nitrogen for an exciting chemistry experiment and a memorable treat.
