Chautauqua performance Saturday in Dayton features Snowshoe Thompson and his wife Agnes
Local authors and historians David and Gayle Woodruff assume the characters of “Snowshoe” Thompson and his wife Agnes in this 55 minute Chautauqua performance Saturday, March 23 at the Odeon Saloon in Dayton.
Thompson carried the mail across the deep Sierra Nevada snow during the winter for 20 years. Packing 80 pounds of mail over the 180-mile round trip in just 5 days on his handcrafted snow skates (skis), with nothing more than a jacket, dried meat and matches.
Thompson was a larger than life character, saving numerous lives, serving his community unwaveringly and devoted his life to the betterment of all. A true Sierra Nevada Superhero. Come early, seating is limited. Doors open at 12:30 p.m.
Tickets are $10 at the door. Odeon Saloon, 5 Pike St, Dayton. Please call David at 760 920 8061 for more information.
