CONNECTIONS Central continues to expand and bring happiness and joy to many Northern Nevadans
In the past year, CONNECTIONS gatherings’ have been bringing happiness and joy to many Northern Nevada residents of all ages and backgrounds through our numerous gatherings hosted at the Brewery Arts Center, Le Capital Cafe, Comma Coffee, the Carson City Senior Center, Atria Holiday Carson Plaza Senior Living Community, and Fleur de Lis Village in South Reno.
We will be hosting our first gathering at the Veteran’s Healing Camp in Silver Springs on April 21 and will be bringing our gatherings to the Veteran’s community in other areas of Northern Nevada in the coming months. CONNECTIONS will also be participating in Older American’s month with events in Carson City, Sparks and Reno from which to choose.
At a time when the Surgeon General has declared loneliness a national endemic, the need for connection is greater than ever. Living in a state of loneliness is equivalent to smoking 15 cigarettes a day and increases premature death by 26%. It increase the risk for Alzheimers by 50%, the risk of heart disease by 29% and the risk of stroke by 32%. Lonleliness Kills!
CONNECTIONS gatherings bring people together for face-to-face interaction and uses guided story-sharing and meaningful conversation to help people experirence elevated levels of connectedness with themselves and others, and as a result find more happiness and joy in their lives.
Dr. Robert Wahldinger and his team from Harvard University have been involved with the longest running Happiness Study, and their research has found the #1 determinant of happiness as we age is the quality of our relationships with others. CONNECTIONS brings people together for the goal of helping them build, nurture and maintain positive and meaningful relationships through guided story-sharing.
At CONNECTIONS, we go beyond the small talk of our daily lives and explore meaningful topics (excluding religion and politics), and our participants leave feeling inspired, uplifted and happy.
Our next BAC gathering is at the BAC on March 21, at 5 p.m. Come join us for complimentary refreshments, inspiration, connection and a lot of fun! The shortest distance between two people is a story, and everyone has one to share. We want to hear them!
