The Play That Goes Wrong, High School Edition by Carson Valley Community Theatre at CVIC Hall weekends beginning March 15
The production of "The Play That Goes Wrong" follows the misadventures of the Cornley Polytechnic Drama Society as they prepare for a production. It is a chaotic satire combining country-house murder mysteries and the trials and tribulations of small-scale theater companies and the thespians in these groups.
This amateur theatre troupe gets together once a year to stage a show, and this time it is the mystery play: Murder at Haversham Manor.
As the play begins, the cast is already facing numerous challenges; forgotten lines, faulty props, and broken scenery make it challenging to put on a show. But, as is sometimes the case, things go from bad to worse. There are misunderstandings, fires, and collapsing set pieces which make it almost impossible to do the show. Cast members misplace props, forget lines, miss cues, break character, mispronounce words and step on fingers. In one scene, an actor repeats an earlier line of dialogue, which then cues the other actors to repeat the entire dialogue sequence several times, each time becoming ever more frenzied and hysterical.
Can the Cornley Polytechnic Drama Society defeat the odds, or will it all go wrong as the title suggests?
This play has won the Olivier Award for Best New Comedy, a Tony for Best Scenic Design of a Play and a Drama Desk Award for Outstanding Scenic Design of a Play.
The production will be held Friday and Saturday nights and Saturday and Sunday afternoons, for two weekends, beginning on March 15. All shows will be at the CIVIC Hall in Minden - across from Minden Park. For tickets or to get on our mailing list, go here.
