Proscenium Players present Steve Martin's Comedy 'The Underpants'
Not since Janet Jackson’s wardrobe malfunction during Super Bowl XXXVIII’s halftime show have undergarments caused such a national fuss. And now it carries over to Carson City.
In "The Underpants," actor-writer Steve Martin has adapted the 1910 social comedy by German playwright Carl Sternheim and turned it into a hilarious, over-the-top farce centered on an unruly pair of bloomers. Theobald Maske has an unusual problem: his wife's underpants won't stay on. During a parade for the Kaiser, Louise's frilly pantaloons accidently fall to her ankles causing a scandal and sets in motion a zany chain of events. Mortified, Theo swears to keep her at home until she can find some less unruly undies. Amid this chaos of Theo is attempting to rent out a room in their home when a foppish poet and a nebbishy barber, entranced by the brief glimpse of her underwear, vie to become Louise's lover.
