New director joins Carson City's Children's Museum of Northern Nevada
The Children's Museum of Northern Nevada in Carson City recently appointed Benjamin Korn as its new Executive Director.
"We were delighted to extend an offer to Mr. Korn because he had extensive fundraising experience as well as an MA in Non Profit Arts Management" says Casey Gilles, Board President. "The museum's Board of Directors felt these two attributes made him an ideal candidate that would chart a new course for the museum involving increased resource development, enhanced constituent engagement, and a focus on revising the museum's collection."
Benjamin arrived in November of 2018. "I joined the staff at CMNN because it was clear that I could have an impact and increase the budget and quality of exhibits in a relatively short amount of time. The Museum is universally loved here in Carson City: virtually every family with toddlers has enjoyed our offerings. My most significant contribution will be presenting our programs to the foundation community in Reno."
Benjamin received his BA in English Literature from UC Santa Cruz and his MA in Non Profit Arts Administration from Golden Gate University. Benjamin was an active orchestra manager and violinist managing the Fremont Symphony and Oakland Youth Orchestra while performing with the Sacramento Philharmonic Orchestra, Modesto Symphony, and California Chamber Symphony. Benjamin served as Development Officer for Berkeley Symphony Orchestra, Ballet Pacifica, Oregon State University’s College of Liberal Arts, and the UC Davis School of Medicine where he secured major gifts for neuroscience research.
Most recently, Benjamin taught all subjects in the Washoe County School District including an interim appointment as Orchestra Director at Wooster High School in Reno. Benjamin holds a designation as a Certified Specialist in Planned Giving issued by California State University at Long Beach.
