Carson City's Shook and Bowman bring home gold from Youth Masters Bowling Tournament
Shane Shook defeated Hunter Mueller 191-133 to become the champion at the Northern Nevada Masters youth tournament last Sunday, January 22.
The tournament was held at Gold Dust West Bowling Center and was sponsored by the Carson Country U.S. Bowling Congress association.
Shook, from Carson City, qualified as the Division A winner for the stepladder finals after bowling 9 games (6 games to qualify and 3 games in the semi-finals) during the day.
Each game was bowled on a different pair of lanes. Mueller, from Minden, qualified as the Division B winner after also bowling 9 games. The divisions are determined by averages.
Each of them won a $150 scholarship for winning the division and Shook earned an additional $50 scholarship for the championship.
In Division C, Clayton Bowman of Carson City finished in first place after 6 games (3 games qualifier and 3 games semi-qualifier) and a stepladder final. He also earned $150 scholarship with his win.
Shook also had the high game of the tournament with a 257 during the Division A final. In B Division, Mueller had the high game with a 232 during the semi-finals.
In C Division, Kiana Cipra of Winnemucca had the high game with a 150. Cipra also qualified first in the qualifying and semi-final rounds.
A total of $2,375 in scholarships will be awarded to the winners and participants of this tournament. The funds will be held in accounts in their names until they graduate from high school and can be used at accredited universities and trade schools.
