Lisa Schuette and Bob Truesdale danced an East Coast swing medley to garner first place in the "Local Celebrities Who Think They Can Dance" contest April 27 at High Sierra Swing Dance Club's sixth-annual Spring Ball at the Carson Nugget.

The winners of the Carson Memories photo contest were announced this week in a ceremony held at the Carson Nugget.

The Carson Memories contest asked participants to submit their favorite photos demonstrating something special or distinct about the Carson City area.

The winning photos, along with the other select photos, are being incorporated into an exhibit created by Gardnerville artist, Beverly Caputo. The exhibit is featured next to a recently finished mural painted by Caputo. The mural depicts key people, places and things of historical relevance to Carson City.

Kiwanis One Day at Genoa's Mormon Station

Kiwanis’ 240,000 volunteers in 80 countries join together on the third Saturday in April, designated as Kiwanis One Day, a day for each club to perform a volunteer project in their community.

April 20, 2013 a total of 17 members of the Kiwanis Clubs of Carson City, Carson Valley, Lake Tahoe and Sierra Nevada with four Douglas High School Key Club members raked leaves at the Nevada State Park in Genoa, Mormon Station.

Opening Day Ceremonies for Carson Girls Softball started the 2013 season on a nice spring day, Saturday 4/13. In U10 league action at Edmonds Park, the Michael Hohl Motor Company/Shaw Nolan Painting Dirt Divas won over the Family Custom Shower & Bath Crazy Devils by a score of 8 to 1.

Rotary Club of Carson City Announces Winners of Second Annual Beer and Pizza Championships

CARSON CITY, NV - For the second year in a row, area residents came out by the hundreds to enjoy an evening of pizza, beer, music and fundraising for a good cause. The second annual Carson City Rotary Club Beer and Pizza Championships was a big success, raising more than $25,000 to assist with a number of community needs.

High Sierra Swing Dance contest 'celebs' prepare for big night

Six local Carson City celebrities are competing in a "Dancing With the Stars"- type contest at the High Sierra Swing Dance Club’s sixth anniversary dinner-dance on April 27 at the Carson Nugget.

The "Local Celebrities Who Think They Can Dance" contestants have been paired with local dance instructors for a variety of dances, including swing, country, Latin, and hip hop. The instructors are Jo Ann Grace, Rainer Herm, Emily Thicke, Armando Nevarez, Earl Case and Bob Truesdale.

Acclaimed WNC Exhibit ‘Always Lost, A Meditation on War’ Coming Home To Show at Nevada Legislature

“Always Lost: A Meditation on War” is returning to its roots. Western Nevada College’s acclaimed creative writing/photographic exhibition about the costs of war will be on display in the Nevada Legislative Building’s second-floor atrium on weekdays, April 17 to May 3.

Outdoors with Don Q: Having fun, again, in Southern California

Elaine and I spent March 28-April 07 on a fun-filled, springtime return to Southern California for several reasons:
1. To celebrate our 11th Wedding Anniversary (March 30).
2. To visit my cousin Lorraine Scholes and her husband Bob, who have a winter home in Indio.
3. To attend our first-ever "Palm Springs Follies" show in Palm Springs.
4. To fly from Indio to Big Bear (our first-ever visit there).
