While there, we experienced an influx of large (almost 3/4-inch) nasty-looking bugs that descended upon us, literally, every afternoon. There were dozens on the deck, the railings, and any other surface available.
Fall prescribed fire burning at Tahoe may begin this week, conditions and weather permitting

Conditions and weather permitting, California State Parks is scheduled to conduct understory burning on approximately 21 acres in Sugar Pine Point State Park on Lake Tahoe’s West Shore.

Fall in Carson City is six to eight weeks of weather that can make a person giddy. The morning chill makes that first cup of coffee extra good for the soul and you can still catch those warm rays of sunshine by the afternoon. The local trails are just begging to be hiked, and the family activities are endless.

It was very curious and seemed to have no fear at all. It decided to hang out in the trees nearby for a while. Then on Sunday I went for a bike ride and saw another one, possibly the same one, only a couple blocks away.

You notice many quick-flying tiny white critters darting around as you work in the garden. Turning over a leaf or two you see a collection of white insects on the undersides. These are whiteflies.

Caution urged as algae and harmful algal blooms found around Lake Tahoe

If you've been at the beaches of Lake Tahoe recently, you'll notice something that isn't normal — algae, and lots of it. Experts are warning residents and visitors to be on the lookout for harmful algal blooms (HABs) in bodies of water in the greater Tahoe area.
No area is in the danger zone at this time, but people and dogs using the following areas should take caution:
New program seeks locally grown or processed products to feed Nevadans

Through this program, the Nevada Department of Agriculture will purchase foods that are grown, produced or processed in Nevada and distribute them through designated food banks to populations in need.
