Governor: Nevada to spend big on housing, broadband via federal funds

Gov. Steve Sisolak on Wednesday laid out plans for how Nevada will spend nearly $2 billion in federal pandemic relief money to confront some of the state’s most pressing issues, namely scarce affordable housing, incomplete broadband connectivity and poor access to child care.

Carson City School Board offers Dr. John Goldhardt superintendent position

After a morning of interviewing the final two candidates for the position of superintendent for the Carson City School District, the board trustees offered the position to Dr. John Goldhardt of Manchester School District in New Hampshire.
The final two candidates were Dr. Goldhardt and Andrew Fueling, who is the current Fiscal Services Officer for the school district.

It is widely accepted that first responders place themselves in harm’s way every day. And with no less frequency, first responders react to save lives daily, often placing themselves in grave danger.
These are selfless acts performed by selfless professionals. However, during a seven-hour period between Monday night and Tuesday morning, Deputies, Dispatchers, and Fire/Medical teams were challenged with reacting to multiple extremely critical incidents and take actions that undoubtedly saved the lives of many.

UNR Extension offers free radon test kits

University of Nevada, Reno Extension’s Radon Education Program is offering free short-term radon test kits to Nevadans through Feb. 28. Radon is a naturally occurring, radioactive gas that is colorless, odorless and tasteless. It comes from the ground and can accumulate in homes, raising the risk of lung cancer.
