Carson City Health and Human Services (CCHHS) is providing the Quad-County community with a weekly update for the week starting October 7 and ending October 13, 2021.

COVID-19 Case Update
For the week, CCHHS is reporting 5 deaths, 321 new cases, and 223 additional recoveries of COVID-19 in the Quad County region. This brings the total number of cases to 19,471, with 14,973 recoveries and 311 deaths; 4,187 cases remain active.

Carson City had 1 death, 149 new cases, and 82 additional recoveries of COVID-19 this week. The current 14-day moving average for Carson City is 13 new cases per day with a 7.1% test positivity rate.

Douglas County had 1 death, 67 new cases, and 33 additional recoveries of COVID-19 this week. The current 14-day moving average for Douglas County is 5 new cases per day with a 9.7% test positivity rate.

Lyon County had 3 deaths, 100 new cases, and 107 additional recoveries of COVID-19 this week. The current 14-day moving average for Lyon County is 11 new cases per day with a 14.1% test positivity rate.

Storey County had 5 new cases and 1 additional recoveries of COVID-19 this week. The current 14-day moving average for Storey County is 0 new cases per day with a 6.3% test positivity rate.

COVID-19 Vaccination Update
As of October 13, 2021, approximately 186,112 doses of COVID-19 vaccine have been administered by Quad-County providers. CCHHS has administered 71,054 doses of COVID-19 vaccine.

Approximately 83,516 Quad-County residents have completed vaccination (received both doses of a 2-dose series vaccine such as Pfizer or Moderna or received the single dose Janssen vaccine) and 91,262 have initiated it (received the first dose of a 2-dose series such as Pfizer or Moderna. This number also includes those who completed the series).

In Carson City, 32,170 residents have been completely vaccinated and 35,069 have initiated vaccination. Approximately 63.7% of the population 12 years and older have completed vaccination.

In Douglas County, 24,590 residents have been completely vaccinated and 26,611 have initiated vaccination. Approximately 55.8% of the population 12 years and older have completed vaccination.

In Lyon County, 25,980 residents have been completely vaccinated and 28,730 have initiated vaccination. Approximately 51.1% of the population 12 years and older have completed vaccination.

In Storey County, 776 residents have been completely vaccinated and 852 have initiated vaccination. Approximately 20% of the population 12 years and older have completed vaccination.

Quad-County Breakthrough Cases
Vaccine breakthrough cases are U.S. residents with a SARS-CoV2 RNA or antigen detected in a respiratory specimen collected greater than or equal 14 days after they have completed all recommended doses of an FDA authorized COVID-19 vaccine.

A complete vaccination is two doses of the Pfizer or Moderna vaccine or one dose of the Johnson and Johnson (Janssen) vaccine. Since February 1, 2021, the overall vaccinated case rate for the Quad County region is 1,144 per 100k population. This means that out of the total population in the quad county region who are fully vaccinated, approximately 1,100 people out of 100k are cases.

Since February 1, 2021, the overall unvaccinated case rate for the Quad County region is approximately 12,600 people out of 100k are cases. It is important to note that no vaccine is 100 percent effective at preventing illness. As the number of fully vaccinated people increases and community transmission increase, breakthrough cases are expected rise.

Upcoming CCHHS Walk-In COVID-19 Vaccine Clinics
All vaccines are available on a walk-in basis at every event for first, second, and third doses for those who are immunocompromised. Pfizer booster doses are available for those who are eligible. COVID-19 Vaccination Record Card or proof of first dose is required for second dose, third dose, or booster dose. Community-Based COVID-19 Testing
CCHHS will be hosting COVID-19 testing events throughout the Quad-County Region. Tests are available free of charge, on a first come, first serve basis; no appointments or pre-registration needed.
