The Día de los Muertos (Day of the Dead) celebration at the Nevada State Museum in Carson City, honored and remembered loved ones over two days through traditional dance, music, art, food and cultural activities.

The capital city celebration — sponsored by Visit Carson City, with additional in-kind support from local businesses — is a tradition that has brought the community together for two decades.

Festivities began Friday with an ofrenda presentation in the Dema Guinn Concourse. Traditionally created to honor loved ones who have passed, ofrendas feature symbolic offerings that celebrate their lives and welcome their spirits. Visitors also enjoyed traditional Mexican breads, including pan de muerto provided by Centro Market and pan dulce provided by Hacienda Market, as well as Abuelita hot chocolate courtesy of Juan’s Mexican Grill and live music.

Saturday brought family-friendly activities throughout the museum campus as Juan 101.7 served as the event emcee. Festivities featured live music, Aztec dancers, face painting, arts and crafts and Mexican street food from local food trucks. See videos below.
