On Friday, Mt. Rose Ski Tahoe became the second ski area open on the west coast to open for the 2026-27 winter season, thanks to early season snow and cold temperatures that have allowed for snowmaking operations to get underway. Mammoth Mountain opened its ski season Thursday.

“We’re excited to get winter started, and to again offer skiers and snowboarders another six month season. Mt Rose – Ski Tahoe can boast one of the longest ski seasons in Tahoe with operations from early November until almost May,” said Mike Pierce, Mt. Rose Ski Tahoe marketing director. “Recent snow paired with our extensive snowmaking efforts, the highest base area elevation in Tahoe at 8,260’, plus more snow in the extended forecast means early season conditions are ready to roll for the first turns of the season.”

Lift operations include the Lakeview Express from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., offering access to long intermediate level trails on the Main Lodge side of the mountain. Open trails include Kit Carson Traverse, Kit Carson Bowl, Ponderosa and potentially more runs as snowmaking continues this week.
Skiers and riders can anticipate early season conditions and snowmaking operations in progress. Beginner terrain will be limited to the Show-Off area near the main lodge.
All parking is available at the Main Lodge, and services include the Lodgepole Cafe, Higher Grounds Coffee Bar, and Timbers. Equipment Rentals & the Tuning Center will be open as well as ski & snowboard lessons. Lifts spin from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. with lodge operations starting at 8 a.m.
Advanced online lift tickets are available at skirose.com and Mt. Rose – Ski Tahoe Season Passes are still available. Additional terrain and resort services are expected to open as snowmaking operations continue at every opportunity that conditions permit.
Wildslide Tahoe snowtubing has not opened yet. The projected opening date for Wildslide Tahoe will be Thanksgiving Day, Nov. 26. Visit Wildslidetahoe.com for updates.
