On August 29, 2026, at approximately 11:45 p.m., Lyon County Sheriff’s Office, Northern Command Patrol deputies responded to the area of a convenience store in the 800 block of East Main Street in Fernley for a report of an armed subject threatening to shoot others and himself.
Witnesses reported the subject was armed with a firearm and making threats before leaving the area in a vehicle. As the vehicle left the scene, multiple gunshots were reportedly fired in the vicinity of the business and nearby gas pumps.
Deputies responded and immediately began an investigation. Evidence was recovered from the scene, and surveillance footage and additional investigative information were obtained that assisted deputies in identifying a suspect and associated vehicle.
On September 1, 2026, deputies located the vehicle in Fernley and subsequently contacted the suspect, identified as Christopher Tyson Serrato, a Fernley resident. As the investigation continued, deputies recovered additional evidence related to the incident.
Based on the evidence developed during the investigation, deputies established probable cause and arrested Serrato. He was booked into the Lyon County Jail on charges including:
- Assault with a Deadly Weapon
- Discharging a Firearm from a Vehicle in a Prohibited or Populated Area
- Discharging a Firearm Where Persons May Be Endangered
- Breach of Peace
- Unlawful Discharge of a Firearm
Serrato’s total bond was set at $53,780.
