On August 27, 2026 at approximately 0833 hours, Lyon County Sheriff’s deputies received information that a student had a gun on one of the school buses heading for Fernley Intermediate School in Fernley, Nevada. Deputies located the bus and immediately took action to safe guard students and investigate the report. During their investigation, deputies determined a student had a pen in the shape of an AR-15 style rifle. The pen had been seen by another student, who reported it to their parent. The parent in turn reported it to the School, who reported it to the Sheriff’s Office. Through the ongoing investigation, it was determined no firearms were on the bus and there is no threat to the students or school staff.
