Aurora Borealis, also known as the Northern Lights, and the high water level at Washoe Lake were captured Monday evening. Observing the Northern Lights in Nevada is rare due to its southern latitude, but possible during strong geomagnetic storms (Kp index 8-9 and higher) when the activity extends far south.

This requires dark, clear nights, with a clear view to the north. Conditions last night weren’t perfect, but the magic still happened.
