The Lyon County Sheriff’s Office is providing an update regarding the homicide investigation stemming from the March 19, 2026 incident in Dayton.
The victim has been identified as 27-year-old Dayton resident Daniel Ferguson. Next of kin notifications have been completed.
Investigators have identified and arrested a suspect in this case, and the investigation remains active and ongoing.
The Lyon County Sheriff’s Office is aware of significant public speculation and misinformation circulating within the community and on social media. While we understand the community’s concern and desire for information, the limited release of details at this stage is intentional and necessary to preserve the integrity of the investigation and ensure a successful prosecution.
At this time, investigators can confirm that this incident was not a random act of violence, nor was it the result of a home invasion, burglary, or robbery. There is no ongoing threat to the general public related to this incident.
