FlyTahoe has installed a marine power pedestal at Tahoe Keys Marina to support future fast charging of electric vessels as the company develops a proposed ferry service on Lake Tahoe, according to a company announcement.
The pedestal, installed at a private marina slip near the gangway, provides a 100-amp, 480-volt, three-phase electrical supply designed to power a movable direct-current fast charger, the company said.
The equipment is intended to support FlyTahoe’s planned electric hydrofoil ferry operations, including the Vessev VS-9 vessel. Hydrofoils use underwater wings to lift the hull above the water at speed, reducing drag.
The installation is near the site of the Tahoe Keys Marina Redevelopment Project.
FlyTahoe said the infrastructure would provide a South Shore charging location for its proposed electric ferry network. Direct-current fast chargers are already in place at Tahoe City Marina and Homewood High & Dry Marina, according to the company.
The company plans to connect communities around Lake Tahoe through an electric ferry network, providing an alternative to driving between the North and South shores.
The proposed service remains subject to regulatory approval.
