L to R: Undersheriff Jim Primka, Sheriff Ken Furlong and Assistant Sheriff Daniel Gonzales.

Carson City Sheriff Ken Furlong is the apparent winner in his bid for reelection Tuesday over retired CCSO deputy Don Gibson.

With the Carson City Elections Department advising that around 90 percent of the ballots have been counted as of Wednesday morning, Sheriff Furlong garnered 65.46 percent of the vote over Gibson with 34.54 percent.

Both offered statements Wednesday via social media:

Sheriff Furlong wrote the following:

To my CCSO family:
Thank you for everything you do to make the Carson City Sheriff’s Office extraordinary. Every employee, in every role, contributes to keeping our community safe and making this an agency we can all be proud of.

I’ve said it before, and I mean it: your hard work is why this community continues to place its trust in me, election after election. You carry out our mission, uphold our values, and turn my vision for this agency into meaningful service every day.

I am grateful for your dedication, your support, and the heart you bring to this work. It is an honor to serve as your Sheriff, and I’m proud to stand alongside you.

Don Gibson wrote the following:
Carson City, Thank You.
There are moments in life that remind you just how much a community can mean to you. This campaign has been one of those moments.

For months, I traveled neighborhoods, knocked on doors, shook hands, and sat down with people from every corner of Carson City. We heard your stories, listened to your concerns, and shared our vision for the future of the Sheriff’s Office.

I will never forget the people who welcomed us into their homes, the families who proudly displayed our signs, the supporters who believed in us, and the countless people who encouraged us along the way.

To my wife Natasha, my family, Robbie, and everyone who stood with Team Gibson/Burgess, thank you. Your support meant more than words can express.

We gave this campaign everything we had. We believed Carson City was ready for a new chapter, and we are proud of the effort, the conversations, and the relationships we built.

Although the outcome was not what we hoped for, I have no regrets about stepping forward. Serving this community for 24 years as a deputy sheriff was an honor. Seeking the opportunity to lead it was an honor as well.

Carson City will always be home. The people of this community will always matter to me. Thank you for your kindness, your encouragement, and your support. From our family to yours, we are truly grateful.

With respect and gratitude,
— Don Gibson
