UPDATE 8:43AM: Here are the latest preliminary results of the contested Carson City races. We’ve learned that the Carson City Elections Department was still counting ballots as of Wednesday morning. The majority of ballots have been processed.

According to Carson City Clerk-Recorder Scott Hoen, around 90 percent of the ballots have been counted, with 2,100 ballots remaining to be counted.

Tuesday brought around 3,500 voters to the Carson City Community Center and around 500 voters to the Stewart Colony voting center, he said. Wait times toward the end of the day were 45 to 50 minutes, with 20 to 25 minutes during much of the day at the community center.

Around 4,000 people voted in the in-person early voting period, with 2,100 mail drop-off ballots. He estimated when all is said and done, overall voting in this election could be in the mid-60 percent range.

Hoen said there were many new and first time voters, along with same day registrations. He said the voting ran “smooth and steady” with a couple of paid observers “pushing the rules” but otherwise no problems.

All votes will be canvassed by Nov. 13 by the Carson City Board of Supervisors.
