By Denise Clodjeaux — Carson Animal Services Initiative (CASI) founder Lisa Schuette will be the guest speaker at the next Rotary Club of Carson City meeting. The public is invited to attend the luncheon which takes place Tuesday, Nov. 18, at noon, in the Brewery Arts Center’s Grand Ballroom, 449 West King Street.
Schuette founded CASI in 2012 to help spearhead the building of a new animal shelter in Carson City. She will discuss how the organization’s role in the community has changed.
“Once the shelter was built, CASI moved into a more supportive role. We purchased a custom-built animal control vehicle, designed and installed the animal play area and the surrounding fencing, and equipped the shelter with TV screens to showcase available pets,” she says. “Additionally, CASI has teamed with NHS during fire evacuations, staffing the pet evacuation sites.”
Schuette is also proud of CASI’s Critter Fixer program.
“We work with area veterinarians in three counties to bring spay/neuter access for pets of low-income families through our Critter Fixer program. To date it has helped over 1,600 animals access spay/neuter services, greatly reducing the number of animal surrenders to local shelters.”
