From October 16 through 19, head down to the Brewery Arts Center and throughout Carson City and Virginia City to participate in the third annual Mark Twain Days Festival, a weekend full of art, music, literary events, historic ghost tours, and much more!
The festival kicks off today, Thursday October 16 at 4 p.m. with a ribbon cutting of the “Twain Reading Room” at the Nevada State Library, followed by the opening reception at 5 p.m. at the BAC Exhibition Hall.
According to Brewery Arts Center Executive Director Spike McGuire, the community can expect four whimsical days celebrating the written word and “the world’s greatest author.”
“Much like Twain in his travels, last year’s event sprawled far and wide, this year we are keeping the action closer to home,” McGuire said. “We have successfully wrangled McAvoy Layne from retirement a second time now, and he will be joined by Kim Harris for a Chautauqua titled Mark Twain & Julia Bulette: Together Again.”
That event takes place Friday night in the BAC Performance Hall, and tickets are $40.
“The change I’m most excited for this year is replacing the Bow Tie Ball with the Lowbrow Social at Nevada State Museum,” McGuire continued. “This will be a dressed down evening of mirth, music, and mingling with southern inspired bites by Nashville Social Club, a custom cocktail from Minden Mill, and Twain’s namesake beer – Langhorne Lager from The Fox Brewery. Guests can dance the night away to Carson Street Ragtime band in the main concourse or take a scavenger hunt to find musicians hidden throughout the exhibitions.”
Tickets are only $50, which is just half the price of last year’s main event.
