Carson City’s newest yoga studio, Motion Yoga and Dance, has opened its doors at 1665 Old Hot Springs Rd #156, and its mission goes far beyond fitness.

Owner Amelia Gotham said the studio was founded with a vision of building health, friendship, and connection.

“We’re committed to being a true community space where people can come to release daily stresses, strengthen their bodies, and nurture their minds and spirits,” she said.

Part of the studio’s philosophy is a dedication to community wellness. The team has partnered with Austin’s House, the local emergency shelter for foster children in crisis.

Since 2007, Austin’s House has provided a safe refuge for children when home is no longer safe, offering stability, support, and the chance to heal and hope again. In that spirit, the yoga studio recently donated a full class to Austin’s House, giving children the chance to experience movement and mindfulness practices designed to bring them a sense of safety and stability even in uncertain times.

Plans are also underway to partner with Austin’s House on a larger wellness event later this year or in early 2026.

Gotham grew up in Incline Village and discovered yoga while attending an acting conservatory.

Later, while living in Los Angeles and working as an actor and personal trainer, she began practicing at Black Dog Yoga and found that yoga and dance are powerful forms of therapy. With a lifelong background in performance arts including ballet, tap, burlesque, barre, and belly dance, Gotham believes movement is a healing modality, both mentally and physically.

“I wanted to create a space where instructors can teach from their passion,” Gotham said. “And where our community can come together not only for yoga, but for friendship, growth, and healing.”

The studio offers classes from yin yoga and sound baths to pilates and dance-inspired movement, all with the goal of helping students feel supported, inspired, and healthier in body, mind, and soul.

To celebrate its arrival, the studio will be holding a Grand Opening event on November 1st at 6pm at Motion Yoga and Dance Studio, 1665 Old Hot Springs Rd. #156, Carson City NV.

The event will welcome community members to experience the space, meet instructors, and learn about upcoming classes and partnerships.
