Sunny skies and warmer temperatures are in store for Carson City and surrounding counties this upcoming first week of fall, with a chance of showers and thunderstorms later in the week, according to the National Weather Service.
Monday and Tuesday will see a high pressure ridge build inland over the region, bringing dry conditions with temperatures near or slightly above average, NWS forecasters said. Highs are expected to be in the lower to mid-80s for Western Nevada and mid-upper 70s near the Sierra.
For mid-late week, weather models show a slow inland track of an upper low in southern California moving northward, with the potential of bringing increasing showers or isolated thunderstorms to the Sierra — around 30 to 40 percent — during the day Wednesday, reaching the northernmost extent into much of western Nevada by Wednesday evening and overnight.
Showers and isolated thunderstorms storms may continue Thursday, mainly from I-80 southward with best overall chances, 30 to 40 percent, over Alpine and Mono counties, NWS forecasters said. There’s also a chance that favors lingering precipitation chances mainly south of US-50. However forecasters note that a northerly storm track spreading farther north of I-80 can’t be ruled out Thursday and Friday.
The weekend looks to be mainly dry with high pressure hanging over Northern Nevada. Temperatures look to be warmer than average, forecasters said.
