Carson City Sheriff’s Office deputies, who spent more than three months growing their beards as part of a fundraiser for Boys and Girls Club of Western Nevada, had them removed Wednesday with the help of East 50 Barbershop and the children themselves from the club.
The sheriff’s office initiative culminated in Wednesday’s “shave off” event at the Boys and Girls Club, with $7,305 raised for the organization that provides before and after school fun and activities for local children.
For the first time ever, CCSO deputies were allowed to grow facial hair as part of the more than three-month long fundraiser, which began in December 2024 and ended Wednesday with the ceremonial beard and mustache shave-off.
Carson City Sheriff Ken Furlong presented the donation check of $7,305 from the Carson City Sheriff’s Deputy Association and the Carson City Sheriff’s Supervisor Association to the Boys and Girls Club of Western Nevada. See video above for the presentation.
As well as the CCSO donation, East 50 Barbershop assisted in the beard “shave off” by providing their expertise as well as supplies needed for the children to shave the deputies beards. Children at the event were able to enjoy pizza courtesy of Little Caesars, which donated to the event.
CCSO Detective Jonathan Tripp organized the “Beard-it-Forward” event after similar fundraisers around the region.
“The Boys and Girls Club is a huge part of Carson City and I felt what better way to start this event, the first time with the sheriff’s office, as a fundraiser for the Boys and Girls Club,” said Tripp.
