Nevada State Police, Highway Patrol has identified a Carson City man who died Friday in a vehicle crash on I-580 on the Galena Creek Bridge.
Eric Burns, 38, of Carson City, died at a local hospital from injuries sustained in the crash.
On Friday, Feb. 7, 2025, at approximately 8 a.m., the Nevada State Police Highway Patrol responded to a report of a crash at the location of I-580 northbound and mile marker 10 in Washoe County on the Galena Creek Bridge.
According to a news release from NHP, the preliminary investigation indicates that a 2017 Subaru WRX, driven by Burns, was traveling northbound on IR580 approaching a prior crash. A Truckee Meadows Fire Protection District fire engine was parked on the scene of the prior crash with its emergency lights activated, partially in the number three travel lane and right paved shoulder.
Burns, the driver of the Subaru, was operating the Subaru at a speed too fast for the current roadway conditions, according to NHP. The driver of the Subaru lost control, and began to rotate. The left side of the Subaru struck the rear corner of the fire engine.
There were no injuries to firefighters or other personnel on scene.
The Nevada Highway Patrol Region Two (Northern Command) Traffic Homicide Unit is investigating this crash.
