Two were arrested Friday for alleged felony drug offenses including trafficking after more than 300 grams of methamphetamine was located following a traffic stop, according to a Carson City Sheriff’s Office booking report.
The two were also booked for alleged felony child abuse/neglect as a juvenile was in the vehicle at the time of the stop. Carson Now is withholding the name of the suspects to protect the identity of the juvenile.
The adults. ages 37 and 38, were booked for alleged trafficking in drugs of 100 grams or more but less than 400 grams. The woman’s daughter (a juvenile’s whose age was not listed in the report) was also booked for alleged misdemeanor possession of marijuana and paraphernalia.
According to the report, at around 10:57 a.m. a Carson City Sheriff’s Office Special Enforcement Team deputy observed a sedan going eastbound on US-50 West at a high rate of speed, picked up on radar at 66 mph.
As the vehicle drove past the deputy, who was at the Park and Ride at US-50 West and Highway 395, the deputy, observed the front driver’s side window was heavily tinted to where they could not see the driver inside.
The deputy caught up to the vehicle as it entered the left-turn lane onto South Carson Street and noticed it bore a Tennessee license plate. Later, a detective utilized a tint meter enforcer to measure the window tint and confirmed the total light transmission was 8 percent, according to the report.
Due to the circumstances, the officer initiated a traffic enforcement stop at Highway 50 and South Carson Street, coming to a complete stop at South Carson and Snyder.
The deputy made contact with the vehicle occupants as officers assisted. Deputies made contact with the woman, who appeared nervous with her hands trembling and avoiding eye contact. She kept reaching underneath the right side of the passenger seat. An officer gave her verbal commands to stop reaching but she disregarded instructions, the report states.
The officer asked her to exit the vehicle as they feared she might reach for a weapon. The deputy opened the passenger door and as they opened the door they noticed a pink glass bong with a glass stem and bulbous-like tube sticking out of it with residue. The woman was placed into handcuffs.
A K9 assisted SET detectives to do a free-air sniff of the exterior of the vehicle. The K9 alerted to the presence of narcotics coming from the vehicle. SET detectives conducted a probable cause search of the vehicle and secured the methamphetamine bong from the passenger seat.
Detectives also recovered a THC vape pen and a marijuana joint from the rear passenger side door panel within arms reach of the juvenile. Detectives also located a brown paper bag which contained a locked black wooden box. Upon opening the box a detective discovered a green digital scale with methamphetamine residue, a large zip-lock bag containing methamphetamine, a smaller pre-packaged zip-lock with additional methamphetamine and several empty zip-lock bags. The detectives also found a brown plastic case containing a second digital scale. Additionally detectives located a third digital scale inside a cardboard box that was secured in the vehicle’s trunk, the report states.
Officers made contact with the male suspect and advised him of his Miranda rights. He chose to speak and admitted to using approximately a gram of methamphetamine per day. He denied paying for methamphetamine directly and explained that their arrangement was he would pay for hotels in exchange for the woman supplying the methamphetamine. He stated that he and the woman would buy large amounts of the drug at a time because he understood the dangers of interacting with drug dealers and feared being robbed, the man told officers.
He advised that he saw a large amount of methamphetamine in a hotel room while he was with the woman and was aware that the box containing it remained in their possession.
Based on the fact that SET detectives located a large quantity of methamphetamine, several digital scales, pre-packaged methamphetamine and numerous baggies, these are common indicators of narcotics sales activity, the report states.
Additionally, the woman made the decision to bring her juvenile daughter who was consequently exposed to narcotics and unsecured methamphetamine pipe inside the vehicle. As a result, both adults were placed under arrest. A detective also booked the juvenile for being in possession of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia, the report states.
During a search incident to the arrest, a deputy searched the woman and located a glass methamphetamine pipe in a backpack. She was asked if she was concealing anything on her person. She replied she didn’t think so but explained she usually conceals narcotics in her bra. A deputy conducted a secondary search, locating a plastic zip-lock in her bra containing methamphetamine, the report states.
Both were taken to jail for booking. Officers later weighed evidence from the large plastic zip-lock bags which had a gross weight of 309.11 grams. The pre-packaged zip-lock bag located with the larger bag had a gross weight of 7.87 grams. Lastly, the plastic zip-lock bag concealed in the woman’s bra weight 6.90 grams. The total amount of 323.88 grams, which amounts to .714 of a pound.
Both were arrested for the following offenses: Trafficking in a controlled substance (100 grams but less than 400 grams) child abuse/neglect, possession of a controlled substance with intent to sell, possession of a controlled substance and possession of drug paraphernalia. Bail: $50,000 each.
