Future Business Leaders of America (FBLA) students at Carson High School will apply their business and marketing savvy by leading a new initiative and launching a new magazine that highlights the achievements, challenges and vision of local entrepreneurs.
Launching this Spring, the magazine “Entrepreneurs in Action” will be distributed widely across the community, offering inspiration and connection among businesses and consumers alike.
“Entrepreneurs are the dreamers, doers and trailblazers who transform ideas into reality,” said Cody Downing, marketing teacher at Carson High. “Their energy and drive create opportunities that shape and grow communities. Carson City has become a vibrant hub for entrepreneurial action, with its unique blend of opportunities to work and play in a supportive environment that embraces courage, creativity and innovation. Entrepreneurs in Action, a dynamic new project, celebrates these change-makers by spotlighting their stories and the impact of their innovations.”

Entrepreneurship drives economic growth and innovation. Carson City’s strong entrepreneurial ecosystem showcases what’s possible when a community supports its visionaries. Entrepreneurs in Action captures this spirit by:
- Celebrating the achievements of local trailblazers.
- Inspiring future leaders to dream big and take bold steps.
- Strengthening community connections.
The project will also fund scholarships, leadership programs and student-led business initiatives, empowering the next generation of entrepreneurial talent.
This sponsor-funded magazine will bring to life the inspiring stories of Carson City entrepreneurs and business leaders while serving as a vital fundraiser for the Carson High FBLA program. Students will gain hands-on experience in marketing, sales, interview techniques, journalism, graphic design and business management. By leading every step of the project, students will foster practical learning, highlight self-employment and local career opportunities and strengthen bonds between Carson City schools and the broader community.
The magazine initiative will be guided by a team of dedicated leaders:
- Angila Golik, Carson High Social Studies teacher and FBLA Leader at Carson High, will ensure the project aligns with student goals. Contact her at agolik@carson.k12.nv.us.
- Cody Downing, Carson High Business and Marketing teacher and FBLA Co-advisor, will mentor students in skills like marketing, sales, journalism and graphic design. Reach him at cstocker-downing@carson.k12.nv.us.
- Jenny Treece, Ad Director for Carson Now, will manage sales and oversee the magazine production. Communicate with her at jenny@carsonnow.org.
- Jon Rogers, a retired serial entrepreneur, will provide strategic guidance and partner with local organizations to expand the magazine’s impact. Connect with him at jayraj89703@gmail.com.
With assistance, guidance and coaching from these leaders, student teams will interview local business leaders and entrepreneurs to craft compelling, magazine-quality articles. Students will also sell ads, ensuring the magazine is self-supporting and deliver a profit exclusively for student use. This process will build recognition for student efforts and showcase their talents.
