On Thursday, the Fernley School District announced that while schools will remain open today, out of safety for students and staff, buses will not be running until the Fernley stabbing suspect is apprehended.

Good evening Vaquero families:

Thank you for your patience and cooperation during student pick-up this evening as we worked to prioritize the safety of all students.

At this time, the Lyon County Sheriff’s Office (LCSO) is continuing its search for the suspect involved in the ongoing situation. While schools will remain open tomorrow, we are committed to providing a secure environment for learning. Due to the uncertainty surrounding the safety of the affected neighborhoods, transportation services to and potentially from school will not be provided.

We understand this may present challenges for your family, and we fully support your decisions in determining what is best for your student. With the suspect not yet in LCSO custody, this decision ensures that students are not waiting at bus stops while the situation remains unresolved.

Once the school day begins, a lockout will be implemented to maintain the safety of all students and staff until the suspect is in LCSO custody. As always, lunch will be provided to all students on campus.

We appreciate your understanding and will continue to provide updates as necessary. Thank you for your ongoing support in helping keep our community safe.

LCSO has been searching for Adam Miller, 19, since Wednesday morning after he allegedly stabbed his parents and fled the scene around 10 a.m.

Miller was seen on a neighbor’s camera shortly after running up the street wearing red sweatpants and a black t-shirt.

Multiple other agencies joined LCSO in the manhunt, including Washoe County Sheriff’s Office, Nevada State Police, Churchill County Sheriff’s Office, and the Bureau of Land Management.

As of 9 a.m. Thursday, Miller has still not been apprehended.

The search has closed a number of roads within the area, and at this time, Farm District Road is still closed between Clearwater Parkway and Red Rock Road. Miller lived with his parents on Farm District Road, which is where the stabbing allegedly took place.

According to the Reno Gazette Journal, Miller turned his phone on at some point during the night, and law enforcement were seen searching the area near Cottonwood Elementary School using a drone and helicopter.

The Sheriff’s Office believes Miller is the only suspect.

We will update with new information as the situation develops.
