UPDATE: The USGS reports earthquakes of magnitude 5.8 and 5.7 and 5.6 centered in the Hawthorne area, were felt sharply in Carson City, Carson Valley, Dayton and Silver Springs areas with the first quake at 12:18 a.m. this Wednesday morning along with aftershocks also being felt.
Dispatch received multiple 911 calls. Carson Now readers say the earthquakes were either side to side or rolling, quite noticeably shaking standing lamps and plants inside homes. The earthquakes were felt at Lake Tahoe and even reports coming in from California’s Western Slope and Central Valley.
The first quake was reported at 12:18 a.m. about 16 miles southwest of Hawthorne, Nev. That quake was followed by others, a 5.7 magnitude, at 12:22 a.m., a 3.7 magnitude at 12:29 a.m. and a 3.5 magnitude at 12:48 a.m. There have been numerous earthquake aftershocks that continue to roll in according to the Nevada Earthquake Twitter feed including a 3.9 magnitude shaker just after 1 a.m. and a much larger 5.6 quake at 1:13 a.m.
