The following is from Carson City Sheriff Ken Furlong regarding a stabbing on Sunday that resulted in a wounded teen girl and a father who was grazed by a bullet.

Suspect John Linville, 17, remains at large and is considered dangerous, Furlong said. The incident was reported at 9:47 p.m., on Sunday. Deputies were called to the 1500 block of Walker Drive following a dispute between two teens, Furlong said.

When deputies arrived they learned that Linville had stabbed his 16-year old ex-girlfriend in the back and fired a pistol at her father, striking him in the chest. The bullet failed to penetrate his clothing and dropped to the ground, Furlong said.

Linville was last seen fleeing the area of Walker Drive and Fairview Drive on foot and has not been seen since. Carson City Sheriff’s Investigators have completed a search of the area.

A .22 caliber pistol, a bullet projectile, two knives, and the suspect’s cell phone were recovered. Witnesses have provided information that Linville may have taken the weapon from a friend’s house without their knowledge, Furlong said.

Investigators have determined that Linville had gone to the victim’s house upset over their breakup and intended to harm her. The two argued briefly on the porch before Linville pulled out a knife. As the female turned and attempted to flee, she was stabbed once, Furlong said.

The victim’s father was home and heard the commotion. He quickly went to the front door, where he was met by Linville. Linville pulled out the gun, pointed it at the man, and fired one shot. A struggle ensued out into the street between the two. During the altercation, the father apparently took the gun from Linville and struck him repeatedly, breaking the barrel of the pistol off the gun.

The 16 year old female victim was treated at the Carson Regional Medical Center for a wound to her shoulder-blade area. Her father required no treatment, only displaying a bruise to his chest, Furlong said.

Anyone with any information about the location or whereabouts of John Linville is encouraged to contact the Carson City Sheriff’s Office at (775) 887-2010 or Secret Witness.

A reward is being offered. Although the weapon was recovered, the Furlong cautions that Linville may still be in possession of weapons and should be considered very dangerous.
