Periods of gusty winds, valley rain and mountain snow are likely Thursday and Friday for Carson City and surrounding counties, according to the National Weather Service in Reno.
The latest system will move in overnight and is expected to bring gusty winds Thursday to the greater Reno, Carson City and Carson Valley areas, prompting a Wind Advisory from 4 a.m. to noon.

Snow levels will be low enough overnight for Sierra communities to see some light snow showers on and off Thursday, while western Nevada valleys will likely be shadowed, according to NWS forecasters.
Meanwhile, Thursday night will bring a second low pressure that will begin to impact the region, NWS forecasters said. This system will be wider in area coverage with snow levels starting above 6,000 feet at the storm’s onset.
A Winter Weather Advisory is in effect for Lake Tahoe and the Sierra from 10 p.m. Wednesday through noon Friday. Snow levels will fluctuate some, with locations along the foothills maybe seeing a dusting before rising above 7,500 feet by early morning Friday.
For now, the greater Lake Tahoe area is expected to see 2 to 6 inches of snow above 6,000 feet, up to 2 inches at lake level and up to 15 inches along the highest peaks. Wind gusts will be up to 90 mph along ridges and 50 mph in the valleys.

Another system Sunday is forecast to bring Sierra snow and valley rain. Snow levels will be above 7,000 feet for majority of this system, bringing snow to the highest peaks, forecasters said.
