It looks like Christmas Day could be a soggy one for Carson City with a mixture of rain and snow in the forecast. Rain is likely for capital city, possibly mixed with snow mainly through Wednesday morning, according to the National Weather Service in Reno. One to 3 inches of snow is possible for the valley floor.
Another low pressure system will move into California by late afternoon Tuesday, spreading more snow into northeastern California, northwest Nevada, Lake Tahoe and the Sierra on Christmas night prompting the weather service to issue a Winter Weather advisory.
The storm will produce moderate snow accumulations with 6 to 12 inches of snow in the Lake Tahoe Basin and northeast California west of Highway 395, amounts 1 to 2 feet in the Sierra above 7,000 feet and several inches in the lower valleys of northeast California and northwest Nevada.
For west central Nevada, rain will change to a short period of snow early Wednesday morning with light snow accumulations and slick road conditions possible for the Wednesday morning in Carson City and Reno areas eastward to Lovelock and Fallon. A second low pressure system will move southeast across the region Wednesday night and Thursday morning, bringing a reinforcing shot of cold air and another chance for snow showers.
Today, Christmas Eve, Carson City can expect a 20 percent chance of snow showers before 10 a.m. with partly sunny skies and a high of 39.
