Nevada State Police, Highway Patrol has identified a Fernley man who died in a single vehicle crash that happened Sunday, Dec. 8, 2024 on I-80 at Mustang and Washoe County mile marker 25.

Jackie Leon Weatheread Jr., 53, died from injuries in the vehicle rollover, reported to NHP at a 3:32 a.m.

The preliminary investigation indicates that a white 2021 Ram 1500 TRX, driven by Weatheread, was traveling in the wrong direction, eastbound, in the number one travel lane of westbound I-80, east of the Mustang exit.

The driver of the Ram 1500 TRX entered the number two westbound travel lane of I-80, then input clockwise steering causing the Ram to overturn multiple times. The driver was ejected from the vehicle, which came to rest on the fog line between the right shoulder and the number two travel lane of westbound I-80.

Weatheread Jr. died at the scene. No other vehicles were reported to be involved in the crash.

The Nevada State Police Highway Patrol Region 2 (Northern Command) Traffic Homicide Unit is investigating this crash.
