According to the National Weather Service, heavy wet snow is expected to be coming into the mountain with Saturday serving as the peak of the storm.

The storm will begin pushing in Friday afternoon to the Greater Lake Tahoe Region, and is expected to bring four to ten inches of heavy wet snow, and eight to 20 inches above 6500 ft.

As of Friday morning, snow is not expected to reach the valley floor; however, winds could gust in the valleys up to 45 mph, with 120 mph over ridges.

Shoreside, waves from two to four feet high are also anticipated.

Mono County is also expected to receive eight – 20 inches of snow, with up to two feet on the crest. Winds are expected to gust up to 45 mph in valleys, with 100 mph over ridges.

The majority of snow will fall Saturday in all regions.

If you plan to make it over the pass, leave early or prepare to need chains, snow tires, and/or 4wheel / all wheel drive.
